Emilio Lustau Description

Aging
Each wine (Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez) is matured, separately in its own solera for 12 years. Once blended
together, the resulting sherry is returned to a 45-cask solera for a further 3 years ageing. In centuries gone by, casks with sherry were lashed to ships sailing for the Indies as ballast and were found to develop an extraordinary smoothness and complexity. Lustau has revived this style of sherry in the East India wine.

Tasting Notes
Dark mahogany in color with green-amber edge. It offers vibrant notes
of maple syrup, brown sugar, shoe polish, raisin and chocolate beer nuts, all very well integrated. On the palate it is smooth and rich at the beginning, full of prune and burned oranges peel flavors. Provocative spicy notes appear
just before its nuttiness and terrific acidity cuts through the sweetness. A truly unforgettable finish.

To Serve
Serve slightly chilled, between 50 – 54ºF. This wine is a perfect companion to light desserts and cakes, but can also be served with creamy cheeses or foie-gras. Try it also on the rocks with a slice of orange, simply delicious.

Wine Advocate: 94 Points

Readers looking for something weighty, sweet, and provocative should check out the non-vintage East India Solera. A blend of soleras averaging 15 to 50 years of age, it boasts a dark amber color as well as a huge nose of melted toffee, caramel, figs, and prunes. This over-the-top yet surprisingly vibrant (because of good acidity) effort is best drunk as dessert at the end of a meal.

Wine Enthusiast: 90 Points

This traditional wine from Lustau is made in the Cream style. It's dark and pretty, with PX-ish prune and caramel aromas. It's not as thick as Pedro Ximénez, and thus isn't syrupy. But it's certainly rich and full of cookie, molasses, maple and brown sugar flavors. For anyone who likes a sweet Sherry that's balanced, this is a good place to go.
