EVERY SATURDAY, WE’LL BE OPENING A HIGH-END “SUPER” WINE FOR YOU TO SAMPLE WITH US.
This Saturday, May 3, 2008 between the hours of 1-4PM we’ll be sampling Paolo Scavino, Barolo, 2004.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU HERE!
"Enrico Scavino has been at the forefront of the modernist movement in Piedmont since the 1980s, and is today one of the most respected and highly regarded winemakers in all of Italy. Scavino diverged sharply from the tough-as-nails-when-young traditional style of Barolo to produce soft and lush wines that are delicious within months of release as well as later in their evolution, applying the same winemaking techniques to Barbera and Dolcetto. The “Rosso da Tavola” (a Dolcetto and Barbera blend), Dolcetto, and barrique-aged Barbera “Carati” are sumptuous wines that consistently rate the highest scores, and yet are available at excellent prices. The most recent addition to his line-up is the Sauvignon/Chardonnay blend “Sorriso”, a mouthwatering, rich blend of the two varietals with no wood aging."
"Enrico Scavino and his two daughters, Enrica and Elisa, continue to produce outstanding Barolos year in and year out." -- The Wine Spectator, April 7, 2008
"Scavino and his daughters are fashioning riveting wines at their cellars in Castiglione
Falletto." Robert Parker, Jr.

Paolo Scavino Barolo 2004

"The estate’s Barolo has always been a standout and the 2004 is no exception. It is a perfumed wine that presents the essence of dried roses, plums, cherries and herbs with a medium-bodied, feminine personality. A sweet note of tar lingers on the long, resonating finish. The Barolo is made from a variety of vineyards, including Vignolo, Vignane, Via Nuova and Monvigliero. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016."

Paolo Scavino Barolo "bricco Ambrogio" 2004

"The 2004 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is the most forward of these 2004 Barolos. Made in a fruit-driven style, this plump, juicy wine is packed with sweet dark fruit. White pepper, truffles, plums and prunes develop with air, but this wine is ultimately more about immediacy than complexity. Still, it offers much pleasure. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019"

Paolo Scavino Barolo Carobric 2004

"Scavino’s 2004 Barolo Carobric comes across as classic in its expression of violets, black cherries, minerals and sweet toasted oak. It too offers gorgeous inner sweetness to its fruit, but it is more focused and less concentrated than the other 2004 Barolos. This is a beautifully proportioned, vibrant Barolo that is sure to find many admirers. Carobric is made from a blend of Rocche di Castiglione, Bric del Fiasc and Cannubi This bottling has often suffered an identity crisis among the single-vineyard wines in the lineup but in recent years its personality has gradually begun to show its potential. The 2004 is a terrific effort. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2024."
