"Tablas Creek Vineyard was founded by the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel and Robert Haas, longtime importer and founder of Vineyard Brands. They chose the hilly Las Tablas district of west Paso Robles for its similarities to Châteauneuf du Pape: limestone soils, a favorable climate, and rugged terrain."
MINIMUM INTERVENTION IN WINEMAKING
"Tablas Creek follows the centuries-old Châteauneuf du Pape tradition of blending chosen varietals, which produces wines that are more complex, better balanced, and richer than single varietal wines. Each varietal is hand-harvested when completely ripe and fermented separately. Winemaking, including native yeast fermentation and neutral French oak barrels, preserves the wines' ties to their soil, climate, and varietal character.
Organic Vineyards
Our organic vineyard practices following the lead of the Beaucastel estate in Chateauneuf du Pape. Like Beaucastel, we use no herbicides or systemic pesticides in the vineyard. We rely on cover cropping, hand hoeing, burning, and mulching to suppress weeds in the rows. Cover crops minimize erosion, host beneficial insects, and return nitrogen to the soil. We use extensive composting, and use compost tea to control mildew in the vineyard and reduce our need for sulfur. We received our organic certification in January, 2003."

Tablas Creek Espirit De Beaucastel Blanc 2005

"The 2005 Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc is a combination of 70% Roussanne and the rest mostly Grenache Blanc and a touch of Picpoul that sees no new oak. It reveals classic notes of honeyed marmalade, intense tropical fruits, impressive underlying minerality, and a chalky character in its big, dry, full-throttle personality that is bursting with character as well as intensity."

Tablas Creek Espirit Beaucastel Rouge 2005

"The 2005 Esprit de Beaucastel looks sensational. A blend of 44% Mourvedre, 26% Grenache, 25% Syrah, and the rest Counoise, this wine has a dense ruby/purple color, a beautiful nose of incense, melted licorice, roasted herbs, pepper, smoked meats, and black fruits. It hits the palate with substantial authority yet shows impressive definition to buttress its striking richness, muscle, and depth. This is a gorgeously proportioned wine that should drink beautifully for 15 or more years."

Tablas Creek Cote De Tablas Blanc 2006

"The Tablas Creek Vineyard Côtes de Tablas Blanc is a blend of four estate-grown white Rhône varietals: Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne, and Grenache Blanc. The wine, like most wines of the Southern Rhône, is a blend of varietals, featuring the aromatics and fruit of the Viognier, the flavors and clean minerality of the Marsanne and Roussanne, and the crisp acids and rich mouthfeel of the Grenache Blanc. Like our Côtes de Tablas red, this wine is designed to be ready to drink young: at its peak from the moment of its release."
"The introductory white is the Cote de Tablas Blanc. The 2005, a blend of 42% Viognier, 33% Roussanne, 19% Marsanne, and the rest white Grenache, offers up aromas of honeyed grapefruit, orange rind, tropical fruits, and lemon zest along with a hint of crushed rocks. Medium to full-bodied with surprising dryness as well as intensity, it should be consumed over the next 2-3 years."

Tablas Creek Cote De Tablas Rouge 2005

"The Tablas Creek Vineyard Côtes de Tablas is a blend of four estate-grown Rhône varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Counoise and Mourvedre. Like most wines of the Southern Rhône, it is a blend of varietals, featuring the fruitiness of Grenache balanced by the spice and structure of Syrah, with meaty, earthy notes from Mourvedre and Counoise.
As with all our wines, the grapes for our Côtes de Tablas were grown on our 120-acre certified organic estate vineyard."
"The 2005 Cotes de Tablas is better than the 2004. This blend of 43% Grenache, 24% Mourvedre, 18% Syrah, and the rest Counoise, shows complex notes of soy, roasted meat, black cherry, currant, resin, and roasted herbs. Spicy, rich, broad, and quite full-bodied, this is serious and well-endowed wine reminiscent of a top-flight Cotes du Rhone from southern France."
