Mas Doix Priorat Salanques 2005
"The 2005 Salanques, a blend of 65% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, and the balance Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon, is aged in French oak for 14 months. It has a glass-coating purple-hue with an alluring bouquet of cedar, smoke, slate, blueberry, and black cherry. Youthful and structured on the palate, this potentially complex effort will profit from 5-7 years of additional cellaring. It will be at its best from 2015 to 2030."

"The 2005 El Nido is a selection of the best grapes from the same vineyards. Opaque purple-colored, it has even better perfume than Clio. Already complex, it offers up a toasty aromatic array of violet, lavender, espresso, chocolate, blueberry compote, and blackberry liqueur. Smooth-textured and dense, the wine is rich and mouth-filling. It has a decade of aging potential at the least but is so juicy now that it would pair well with a 60-day dry-aged rib eye. It will show best between 2015 and 2030."

"The 2006 Petalos del Bierzo is purple-colored with a fragrant nose of violets, lavender, mulberry, and blueberry. Ripe, supple, and sweetly fruited, it will evolve for 2-3 years and drink well through 2015. This estate was started in 1998 by Alvaro Palacios. It has steep hillside vineyards and 60- to 100-year-old vines planted in 100% Mencia, a varietal indigenous to Bierzo, a cool-climate."
