Struzziero Taurasi

“Acuto di Soprano”

Dry Red
1999

This season, likely in late May, featured at Tony’s table with the pasta and red sauce, will be Struzziero’s Taurasi, Acuto di Soprano. From the Campania Region of Italy, this wine is expected to have a special storyline in the series, starting Tony on a search for his ancestry.

Enjoy this wine along with Tony!

The Taurasi district lies among the Irpinia Hills which stretch from Avellino to Benevento. Aglianico grapes, grown in volcanic soil at elevations of 1,000 to 2,000 feet above sea level, yield a full bodied, richly textured wine. Aglianico, grown in Campagnia and Basilicata, is widely considered to be the best red wine grape of Southern Italy. Because of this, Taurasi was elevated to D.O.C.G. status with the 1989 vintage. Ruby red in its youth, turning mahogany with age. Full aroma of cherries and spice. Full rich flavor. Robust with great depth and character.

Italian
Wonderful Italian! The menu of classic Italian flavors with creative touches starts with a selection of hot and cold appetizers, such as the Carpaccio di Salmone with a ginger-lime Mayonnaise to Procuitto di Parma with Melon and Fontina. Move on to the fresh pasta dishes such as penne with pancetta, radicchio, smoked mozzarella and tomato.
Then enjoy a breast of chicken in garlic-rosemary balsamic fond de veau or veal in a basil pesto cream, or grilled filet mignon topped with parma proscuitto, melted fresh mozzarella, and a shitake sauce. Every course is a fresh, flavorful treat!
