THE STORY
If you closely follow he Tuscan wine scene, you are undoubtedly aware that the
La Serena winery has routinely been getting great reviews for their Brunellos.
We struck a very attractive deal with La Serena's importer and can offer these
Brunellos at equally attractive prices. Note: this is a pre-arrival offer with
wines due in early March.
The La Serena estate has belonged to the Mantengoli family since the 1930s, but
they did not start making wine until 1988, when brothers Andrea & Marcello
entered the family business. What began as a 2.4 acre farm has since grown into
21.6 acres, with about 14.4 of those under vine, dedicated exclusively to
Sangiovese for Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino.
The zone of production, Torrenieri, is in the northeast corner of Montalcino at
about 400 meters above sea level. The soil here is similar to the
Pertimali/Montosoli Cru areas, but is slightly less compact, providing wines
with structure but perhaps more approachability in their youth than their
neighbors.
La Serena's Brunello di Montalcino comes from 17 year-old vineyards near the
famed Montesoli Cru. The vineyards, planted at 350 meters above sea level on
clay, calcareous soils, benefit from longer ripening periods and higher levels
of acidity than their lower altitude counterparts.
All of these wonderful Brunellos are offered at the lowest pre-arrival prices,
offered before the ratings come out. In addition, we'll provide FREE SHIPPING
with orders of 4 or more bottles of the same item.

La Serena Brunello Di Montalcino Gemini 2004
"Dark red in color, showing impressive aromas of dried dark fruits, with
slightly toasty oak and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, with a wonderful core of
ripe, beautiful fruit and racy, polished tannins. Very long and beautiful. A new
wine for this producer. Drink now. 545 cases made."
