THE STORY
Looking for a terrific value from Spain at the magical $15 price point? Today's your lucky day as we have a winner for you, a voluptuous red rated 91 from James Suckling and 90 from The Wine Advocate.
The Telmo Rodriguez estate in Toro is named after a Spanish breed of bull that is both elegant and powerful. Along with a few other notable winemakers, Telmo was one of the first to rediscover vineyards of decades-old, bush-trained vineyards. He was a major force in elevating Toro to one of the most in vogue wine regions of Spain. The distinctive red soils produce a Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo) with tremendous fruit concentration, ripeness, acidity, tannins and structure.
Dehesa Gago is the wine Telmo has used to discover and understand the vineyards of Toro, a pure wine that showcases the fruit. Like all the Telmo wines from Toro, Dehesa Gago is 100% Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo). Dehesa gago Gago is picked by hand from bush vines, and fermented in neutral cement casks and stainless steel. It is then aged for 4-6 months in cement tanks.
Great vintage for this wine. And, as always, great price from Wine Legend!
