In 1964, Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre ranch in the heart of the Napa Valley and planted it with Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. For the next few years, Louis sold the grapes to neighboring wineries with the dream of retiring one day from his San Francisco advertising business and making wine from his vineyard in Rutherford. Before he could realize his dream, Louis passed away, leaving the estate to his children and grandchildren. In 1984, at the age of 22, Louis' grandson, Michael Honig, took over management of the vineyard and winery, bringing Honig’s reputation for quality to new heights.
The fruit for the 2007 comes from both Honig’s own vineyard in Rutherford as well as local Napa Valley vineyards. The final blend was 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 18 months in American oak, one-third of which was new.
