THE STORY

We haven’t had a Bordeaux offering in awhile, so for all you Bordeaux fans, here’s the deal of the summer. How about a delicious, quality, 90 point St. Emilion from a great vintage? How about $19.99? Read on…
Present in Saint-Emilion since the early 20th century, Mähler-Besse increased their vineyard holdings in this appellation when they bought Château La Couronne in 1992. Mähler-Besse owns numerous properties in Bordeaux, most notably 50% of Chateau Palmer in Margaux. They have made all the necessary investments to produce a great wine: new cellars and truncated-cone-shaped vats unique in the appellation. Yields at Château La Couronne are quite low and the wine is kept on the skins for a long time. It is very fruity and technologically flawless - a very attractive wine. Its elegant, well-integrated oak, and finesse make La Couronne very enjoyable in its youth.

The 2005 vintage, like most of the rest of Bordeaux, was very successful at Chateau La Couronne. The wine was released two years ago at $25. Now that it’s had time to settle in, it’s a better wine. And needless to say, Wine Legend is offering it at a much better price.

“Crushed blackberry notes, with hints of dark chocolate and mineral, follow through to a full body, with chewy tannins and a long finish of fruit and vanilla. There's very bright acidity in this. Still needs to come together in the bottle. Best after 2012. 5,000 cases made.”
