Which brings us to today’s newsletter. We just received the August 2010 issue of Wine Spectator, and read James Laube’s 93 point review of Patz & Hall Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) 2008. Let’s just say that we were going to stock this wine anyway, regardless of score, but after reading WS, we bought a lot more than originally planned, giving us a nice quantity discount. As usual, we pass along the savings to you.

The nose shows classic Pinot Noir notes of raspberry and cherry, with lots of earthiness and lovely toasty oak. The mouth explodes with blueberry, Bing cherry, anise and toast. Even more striking is the depth and richness of the mouth-feel, like a rich, thick, red pillow for the mouth. The wine is very fruity, with blackberry characters and a big, rich, tarry and solid balance. The oak is refined and quite opulent in its “warm” characters.
