THE STORY

By now, you probably already know that the 2007 Chateauneuf-du-Pape vintage is widely regarded as one of the best – if not the best – in modern times. In addition to the extraordinary quality displayed by the “Big Boys,” even lesser known producers seemed to make great wines in this landmark vintage. There aren’t too many bargains among the “Parkerized” 2007 CdPs, but today’s offering gives you the best of both worlds: a terrific 2007 CdP at a terrific price of $29.99!

Chateau Beauchene is not a household name among Chateauneuf-du-Pape enthusiasts, primarily because precious little is imported into the US. It is much better known in Europe. In fact, this very wine was reviewed in the March issue of Decanter Magazine, receiving a **** (four star) rating, placing 12th among 205 CdPs reviewed in this article! Simply put, they loved it!

We know that you’re thinking “For only $30, can it really be good?” Our answer is a resounding “absolutely!” This isn’t Beaucastel “Hommage,” Pegau “Da Capo,” or Usseglio “Mon Aieul.” It’s just a damn good CdP and a steal at $29.99! Just ask Decanter Magazine. And read the following:
Chateau Beauchene Chateauneuf Du Pape grand Reserve 2007

Chateau Beauchene Chateauneuf Du Pape "grand Reserve" 2007

By Josh Raynolds Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Glass-staining ruby. Exotic aromas of black raspberry and cherry preserves, potpourri and smoky spices. Sweet, sappy and penetrating, offering seamless red and dark berry flavors enlivened by tangy spice and mineral notes. The finish repeats the spicy quality and leaves a trail of sweet berry notes behind. This is appealing now but has the concentration and balance to age.

Domaine De Mourchon Seguret Grande Reserve 2007

Regular Price : $34.99  Sale Price: $23.99

As for the equally deep ruby/purple-colored 2007 Seguret Grande Reserve, this wine has much more licorice and more depth and body, but displays a similar aromatic and flavor profile. It is broad, expansive, and voluptuously textured, with stunning depth and richness. This is about as good as Seguret can be and actually competes with wines that are much more costly. Drink it over the next 7-10 years.
M Chapoutier Cotes Du Rhone 2007

Regular Price : $13.99  Sale Price: $11.19

Fleshy and ripe, with blackberry and macerated currant fruit giving way to toast, cedar and licorice hints on the finish. Nice acidity keeps this lively. A super value. Drink now. 19,000 cases imported.

Domaine Les Pallieres Gigondas Les Terraces De Diable 2007

Regular Price : $41.99  Sale Price: $27.99

The sensational 2007 Gigondas Les Terraces de Diable reveals gloriously sweet black cherry and black raspberry fruit intermixed with notions of licorice, loamy soil, and roasted herbs. With terrific fruit density, a full-bodied richness, and striking elegance and precision, it should drink well for 15 or more years.
Coudoulet De Beaucastel Cotes Du Rhone 2007

Regular Price : $32.49  Sale Price: $25.99

The blockbuster 2007 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet, always one of the best bargains from the south, may be the finest Coudoulet ever produced. A blend of 30% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, and the rest Syrah, Cinsault, and a few other authorized varietals, is incredibly opulent and rich, with sensational notes of black currants, licorice, smoked herbs, and meat juices, a full-bodied mouthfeel, savory tannins, and good acidity as well as length. This outstanding wine can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15 years.
