In case you missed it, the current issue of The Wine Advocate features a report on central and southern Italy written by Antonio Galloni. The article primarily focused on the region of Campania and the quality and range of wines being produced there today. Here’s what Galloni said about Campania in a previous issue of WA: "In short, Campania offers one of the broadest palettes of shade and nuance wine lovers are likely to encounter. At their finest, these are among the most extraordinary wines being made anywhere." In the current issue, Galloni’s passion for this region and respect for the producers which have chosen the path of quality shines through again.
Quite simply, we are offering here six representative wines from Campania, both white and red, loved by Galloni as well as other wine critics and the staff at Wine Legend. All are terrific wines and sensational values. | |||||||

“The 2009 Greco di Tufo is a crisp, focused white laced with beautifully articulated grapefruit, minerals and wet stones that come together nicely on the palate. The finish is long, vibrant and refreshing. This is classic Greco.”

“The 2006 Aglianico del Taburno Fidelis is an excellent choice for readers who want to explore the qualities of Aglianico, one of southern Italy’s great red varieties. This forward, soft red offers up sweet cherries, smoke, herbs, spices and cured meats in an approachable style, with plenty of varietal character and tons of personality. It is a fabulous effort from Cantina del Taburno, as well as a terrific value."

Not reviewed by The Wine Advocate but 2009 was an outstanding vintage for this gorgeous Rosato.

“The 2006 Taurasi Vigna Cinque Querce is an utterly impeccable, brilliant wine. Vibrant dark cherries, flowers, and minerals all flow onto the palate with remarkable concentration. The proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove, the Taurasi Vigna Cinque Querce delivers incredible richness while retaining tons of clarity, inner perfume and harmony. This is a fabulous effort from Molettieri."

“The 2007 Roccamonfina Terra di Lavoro announces itself with a blast of smoke, ash, red berries, flowers and minerals, all of which come together in a heady, exotic expression of Aglianico and Piedirosso, two of Campania’s thoroughbred grapes. There is incredible clarity and nuance in the glass despite the wine’s massive concentration. The 2007 is a very unusual Terra di Lavoro for its open, accessible personality and ripe, silky tannins, both of which are on full display. I am fairly certain the wine will shut down in bottle but today it is nothing short of glorious."
