THE STORY

With today’s offering, we find ourselves with numerous wines from around the globe that have one important trait in common: they are all outstanding values. Since these wines are geographically all over the place, we cannot group them together based on region as we normally do.

Instead, we want to stress that all of the wines listed below, both white and red, have received excellent reviews from the wine press and represent good values at their regular price. But you’ve come to expect “every wine on sale every day” from Wine Legend, so we had to sharpen our pencils to come up with pricing that would really make you happy.

If you are a bargain hunter who appreciates quality, and you’re not locked in to any one particularly region or style of wine, then you should certainly find wines listed here that stimulate your interest.
Bodegas Olivares Altos De La Hoya Monastrell 2008

Regular Price : $12.99  Sale Price: $8.99

(92% monastrell and 8% garnacha) Inky purple. Deep, smoky, seductively perfumed bouquet of dark berries, macerated cherries, licorice and Indian spices. Powerful blackberry and cassis flavors are surprisingly lively, with notes of black cardamom and candied violet adding complexity. A zesty note of cracked pepper adds snap to the long, spicy, subtly sweet finish. Once again, this is probably the top value I found in my annual tastings of new releases from Spain. Some of the vines in this plot reportedly date back to 1872. (The Rare Wine Company, Sonoma, CA)

Capcanes Mas Donis Barrica Red 2007

Regular Price : $15.99  Sale Price: $9.99

"The purple-colored 2007 Mas Donis Barrica is a blend of 85% Garnacha (from vineyards over 80 years of age) and 15% Syrah. Aged for eight months in French and American oak, it was bottled without fining and filtration. It offers up an alluring bouquet of smoke, pencil lead, earth notes, clove, cinnamon, and black cherry. This leads to a wine with remarkable depth and concentration for its humble price, savory flavors, and a fruit-filled finish. Although it is likely to evolve for 1-2 years, there is no reason to delay gratification."

Sean Minor Pinot Noir Carneros 2008

Regular Price : $19.99  Sale Price: $14.99

"Tasted in a flight with far more expensive wines, this Pinot stood proud. It’s dry and richly complex, with the silk-and-satin texture you want. The flavors reward with cherries, cola, Canadian bacon, Indian spices and sandalwood. At this price, it’s a steal."

Regular Price : $16.99  Sale Price: $10.49

"The 2009 Albarino is light gold-colored with a lovely bouquet of white flowers, hazelnut, peach pit, and mineral. On the palate it is surprisingly complex for its bargain price with a viscosity bordering on opulence. If you enjoy Albarino, this is one to buy by the case."

Auratus 2009

Regular Price : $14.99  Sale Price: $13.99

“The sister wine to Marcial Dorado's Alvarinho, this grows at a vineyard planted on a vein of schist. The vines are relatively young, but Dorado's meticulous farming coupled with the distinctive site make this compelling and beautiful. The color is golden, predicting the ripe nectarine and peach scents. And while the wine is superripe, it's also corseted by a tight band of acidity that keeps it fresh and brings up floral notes in the finish. Startlingly delicious a day after it's first opened, this is a wine to keep for a year or to decant now for oysters and other fruits de mer. — 93 Points Wine & Spirits Magazine

Varner Foxglove Chardonnay Edna Valley 2008

Regular Price : $15.99  Sale Price: $12.79

The sensational 2008 Chardonnay Central Coast, which is fermented and aged completely in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, is a 30,000-cuvee of fabulous Chardonnay. Loads of tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and orange blossom notes fill the olfactory sense, as does the luscious medium-bodied texture on the palate. The wine is buttressed by crisp underlying acidity, and the result is a fresh, naked expression of Chardonnay that is top-flight. Drink it over the next year or so.
