THE STORY
“Giuliano Corino makes unbelievably densely-fruited, seamless, velvety and layered wines from Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto; these wines are perhaps the most representative and exciting of all La Morra. Corino has vineyard holdings in the choicest parcels of La Morra: “Arborina”, “Giachini” and “Rocche". The “Vecchie Vigne” cuvee was most recently awarded 96 points by the Wine Spectator for the 2003 vintage; this sublime Barolo is a blend of small batches of Nebbiolo from the oldest vines in each vineyard, but mostly from the Giachini. The non-oak-aged Barbera and Dolcetto are delightful, utterly pure expressions of the varietals.”
Farming Practices:
“Integrated insect and disease control is employed. Sulfur- and copper-based products prevalent. Only manure is used as fertilizer. Spontaneous cover crops (grass cover) are left between the rows of vines. There is minimum use of SO2 in wines in order to prevent oxidation.”

Corino Barolo 2005

Perhaps the most representative and exciting wines of all La Morra are coming from the cellar of Giuliano Corino. His wines are unbelievably densely-fruited, seamless, velvety and layered: holdings in the choicest parcels of La Morra (Arborina, Giachini and Rocche) don't hurt! His 2005 Barolo normale is made from 100% La Morra fruit, from younger vines in Giachini and Arborina. Fermentation is carried out on the skins in temperature-controlled steel vats for 1 week, the wine is then transferred to 1-year old French barriques, where it ages for 24 months. Intense, opulent and bright with brambly fruit, Giuliano's gift to you in 2005 is stellar Barolo at yesterdecade's pricing! 850 cases produced.

Clerico Ciabot Mentin Ginestra 2005

The 2005 Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra emerges from the glass with endless layers of sweet spices, menthol, violets and dark fruit on a powerful, authoritative frame. This is a beautifully defined, sculpted wine of the very highest level. Tar, smoke and licorice linger on the finish. The tannins are massive at this stage, and the wine needs time, but the 2005 is undoubtedly one of the stars of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.
