Alto Moncayo Veraton 2007
Opaque violet. Sexy aromas of red and dark berries, sandalwood, spice cake and fresh rose. Spicy, concentrated raspberry and blackberry flavors are given spine by zesty minerals and pick up a smoky quality with air. Impressively lively for such a rich wine, with strong finishing spiciness and lingering notes of licorice and red berries.

The 2007 Urban Ribera is a strong candidate for the best new release Ribera del Duero under $25. Made from 100% Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo), the wine spent four months in French oak. Purple-colored, it offers up a fragrant bouquet of scorched earth, violets, and black cherry that leaps from the glass. Smooth-textured and suave on the palate, it has loads of succulent black fruit, silky tannins, excellent depth and grip, and a juicy finish. Drink this tasty effort over the next four years.

Leopardi Brut Rose 2006
The 2004 Brut Rose is an interesting blend of 60% Monastrell, 20% Garnacha, and 20% Pinot Noir. Medium pink-colored, it has a lovely nose of roses, strawberries, and a hint of raspberry. Crisp, elegant, and balanced, the wine has a refreshing finish. It is an outstanding value.

Altos De Luzon Jumilla 2006
The more serious 2006 Altos de Luzon is 50% Monastrell, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 25% Tempranillo and was aged for 12 months in new French and American oak. This purple-colored wine offers a complex aromatic array of pain grille, scorched earth, blueberry, black cherry, and violets. This leads to a full-bodied wine with layers of savory fruit, spicy flavors, outstanding depth and structure, and a lengthy finish. It will evolve for 2-3 years and be at its best from 2010 to 2018.
