THE STORY
Welcome to the world of Grateful Palate Imports. In 1997 I bet my life savings on red: I invested every penny I had in a partial container of Australian Shiraz from a dozen and a half producers. At that time there was virtually no market for world-class, ultra-premium Australian Shiraz anywhere in the world. But my philosophy was simple then and remains the same today: I only buy wines I'd be happy to drink if they do not sell.
Over the years, we have assembled the world's finest portfolio of Australian Shiraz, including producers such as Chris Ringland, Trevor Jones, Rick Burge, Marquis Philips, Noon, Kay Brothers, Greenock Creek and many more that you can explore through our web site. We focus on South Australian Shiraz, primarily from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Padthaway, but also great Shiraz from regions like Heathcote, and also other wines like old vine Grenache, Cabernet, and Riesling. In 2007 we introduced our first wines from California: Napa Cabernet and Merlot and old-vine Mourvedre and Carignan. DAN PHILLIPS

Marquis Philips Shiraz 2008

Dan Philips commented that 'this is the best Shiraz, which R Wines Marquis Phillips has ever produced.' We agree!
This wine is not yet rated, however it always grabs really high scores. Don't snooze or you will lose!
WINERY TASTING NOTES
"Opaque red-black with a purple rim. Aromas of rich brown sugar, prunes, black fruits, earth and mineral. A dense, silky palate, rich and super-ripe with bitumen, molasses and vanilla. Long soft, structured tannins."

R Wines Chateau Chateau Grenache Chateau 2006

The 2006 Chateau Grenache was blended from 6 vineyards, the only regional "terroir" wine in the series. It was sourced from 40- to 50-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in second-use French oak. Light crimson-colored, the nose of earthy, garrigue, sage, and kirsch aromas jumps from the glass. This leads to a velvety, rich, seamless Grenache with impeccable balance and a 45-second finish. It will evolve for 2-3 years and provide pleasure through 2020.
This wine is arriving on June 16th.

R Wines F U 2004

The 2004 F.U. Shiraz (200 cases) is similarly brooding and liqueur-like. It spent 30 months in new French oak hogsheads and offers a compelling bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry. Lighter on its feet than The Wine with a more forward personality, it has layers of flavor, savory fruit, and enough silky tannin to evolve for a decade. Drink it from 2014 to 2034.
This wine is arriving on June 16th.
